Welcome to Term 2! If you’re anything like us you’ll find the days and weeks are flying past – the days are getting progressively cooler but activities at Aspiring Gymsports are hotting up!
Please read below for an update on what’s happening this term. Updates can also be found on our Facebook page Aspiring Gymsports Gymnastics Club or visit our website www.aspiringgymsports.co.nz
Aspiring Gymsports ClassesDid you know that we run a huge range of recreational and competitive gymnastics programmes? This month we would like to highlight …
Highflyers Cheerleading Not your stereotypical pompom cheerleaders, our classes are for athletes who want to put their love of Gymnastics and dance into a fun team routine! Great for the social child who likes to work as a group, but also great to develop that confidence and for children to make new friends. We start with a warm up/game, gentle stretching, followed by jumps, routine work, stunts (acrobatic formations) and tumbling. There is a position for everyone in cheerleading, and no experience is necessary. Next term we will be hoping to display the routine in the community. Coached by Kim Coll - former NZ Allstar Cheerleader, trained in Level 1&2 Coaching. We always welcome new children, if your child would like to give it a go, feel free to bring them along Sunday 3:30-5pm, 7 - 16 years. We would love more teenagers to help lift our smaller girls!

Competition Update WAG 2/3

Step 2 Team - Vienna Harley, Ivy Campbell and Louise Bennett and Step 3 team (pictured) both kicked off their competition season on May 19th in Dunedin at the St. Bernadettes Junior Comp.
All girls enjoyed their competition without feeling too nervous and Fleur placed 2nd on bar in Step 3 and Vienna 3rd on bar in Step 2. Congratulations everyone!!

Competition Update WAG 7

Bella Soper began her competition season with an amazing first outing in Step 7 in Christchurch. OnRio equipment, she upgraded her floor routine, tumbling to front layout somersault, punch front somersault and a full twisting back layout. This was only the 2nd time that Bella had the opportunity of performing her routine on the full size area as our floor area is only half the size and not sprung. Regardless, she earned a 3rd placing on floor! Bella performed with confidence and overcame her demons to be awarded 2nd place on beam and finished up with a final placing of 2nd overall! Bella is the first gymnast from Wanaka to perform at Step 7 and earned herself a qualifying mark of over 44to help her gain selection for the Otago team to attend the New Zealand Gymnastic Championships.

From the Committee

Can you help?

  • We are after 2 queen size mattresses – does anybody happen to have a spare one they are not using?
  • We have some equipment that needs storage until we can move into a bigger space. Does anybody have a shed/garage or room to help store some of this?
  • Save the date - 29 June: We plan to have a working bee on 29 June at the Gym. The more hands the better, even if you can only spare 30-60 mins it would be greatly appreciated!
  • Save the date - 6/7 July: We have our Aspiring Gymsports club competition coming up on 6 and 7 July. WAG Step 1, 2 and 3 are competing on Saturday and Recreational Bronze, Iron and Silver on the Sunday. We will need some people to help with: welcoming the competitors and spectators and collecting a small entry fee; canteen sellers; recorders; score runners; baking donations.

If you can help with any of the above please contact Kirsten on 021 801 950
