Open Youth

This class is an open unstructured class for 10-14 year olds. Its is suitable for anyone who enjoys gymnastics but prefers to spend their time trying out various skills or apparatus in their own time with their friends. Our coaches supervise and help athletes learn and develop in which ever areas they show in interest in. This sometimes include attempting programmes used in other classes.

Teen Time

This class is an open unstructured class for 13-16 year olds. This is suitable for those who want to explore the gym at their own pace, or occasionally even for those who wish to try learning gymnastics without needing to join a class targeted towards younger age groups. Many teens enjoy this class as a way to socialise while casually trying new skills and apparatus in the gym.

Adults Gym

This class is an open unstructured class for anyone over the age of 16. Adults can come along and practise gymnastics with the help and support of our coaches. We typically run first timers through a basic intro session covering basic knowledge along with steps into learning the first basic few skills. Once a person is comfortable with those we let you explore and attempt things on your own, and are happy to step in and guide you if you wish to have specific coaching in an area.

GfA - General Gymnastics

Junior Foundation (5yrs)
Foundation Gym (6-9yrs)

Both classes run on the same Foundation Gym programme, only difference being the age groups of the classes.
The programme lays the foundation skills for all other gymnastics codes in NZ by starting with the seven fundamental movement patterns.

  • STATICS (eg. maintaining a desired shape in a stationary position, like handstands)
  • LANDINGS (eg. stopping movement, like landing after a vault)
  • SPRING (eg. rebounding activities that produce rapid displacement of body, like jumps & leaps)
  • LOCOMOTION (eg. moving from point A to B in different ways, like skipping or galloping)
  • ROTATION (eg. rotating around an internal axis, like rolls)
  • SWING (eg. rotating around an external axis, like on the bars)
  • MANIPULATIVE SKILLS (eg. using hands, feet, or other body parts to control and move objects. Such as throwing or catching a ball.)

Then using that as a base they work through 10 levels of the Foundation Gym programme, with skills progressively becoming harder as they progress.
